A PUBLIC BENEFIT CORPORATION SERVING JOURNALISM:
A PUBLIC BENEFIT CORPORATION SERVING JOURNALISM:
Public Benefit Corporations operate like regular corporations with one major exception: Corporations are legally required to maximize profits for their shareholders as their reason for existence. Public Benefit Corporations are allowed to legally add an additional reason for existence that serves a social or environmental need - allowing them to serve both purposes. “Certified” Public Benefit Corporations meet even higher standards that prove (or certify) they are doing the things they claim to be doing - or at least trying.
We have chosen Journalism as the cause we want our business to serve.

"It's refreshing to work with a team that's so aligned with our business and core values."

OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES:
-
Good journalism is worth paying for.
-
Supporting journalism is good business.
-
The future and stability of journalism require radical innovation now.
-
Everything we do as a business will strive to support and fund effective, responsible, and sustainable journalism.
-
Effective journalism requires an engaged community.
-
Responsible journalism provides a forum for civil discourse, public debate, and compromise.
-
Sustainable journalism incentivizes citizens to engage as creators, curators, and customers.
-
-
Publishers have the right to protect their brand for their own sake and for the public good.
-
Curation of both content and community input is the right and responsibility of journalists.
-
We strive to abide by and promote The Way of Openness in all we do.
These guiding principles were crafted together with help from our industry advisors. The same principles were ultimately approved by our advisors and then presented to our Board of Directors for a confirming or ratifying vote as part of our company's reason for existence.
As needs and information changes, these principles are changeable at any time by following the same process used to create them in the first place. In this way we ensure that we are always seeking to be aligned with members of the very community we are striving to serve.

"How do we actually change the entire industry?"
